Women control more than 50% of all personal wealth in the United States yet less than 10% of investors at angel, venture and private equity funds are women. Furthermore, while woman entrepreneurs represent 36% of all businesses in the United States, women CEOs receive less than 10% of venture capital dollars. Gender inequity has long been a challenge in private investing with minimal growth in the number of female investors over the past 50 years. Virginia Women In Venture showcases entrepreneurs and discusses the how’s and why’s angel, venture and private equity in the Commonwealth can be a smart, viable vehicle for wealth management and growth.
WiV Advisory Board
In addition to the core Board of Directors, WiV has a tremendous group of women contributing to the success of this organization. These are inspiring, community-driven women who are helping to create change in the Commonwealth and beyond.
A core aspect of Women in Venture is actively engaging with our investing and entrepreneurship communities. Across the Commonwealth, we strive to support rising entrepreneurs, continue to develop professionally, and invest in our local communities. This upcoming year we are starting a Salon Series where we will have investing workshops, inspiring conversations with industry leaders, and host the region's most promising entrepreneurs to support their endeavors.
This year, in addition to our annual conference, WiV will be launching a series of informal salons to bring together women in the WiV network. Each salon will highlight a local entrepreneur or dive deeper into investor education all with the goal of equipping our members with the tools to support entrepreneurs in our region.
